Season’s Greetings one and all. Are we the only ones who blinked and another year’s gone by?
We hope you and your family have had a fantastic year and for those of you who are lucky enough to get a break, we hope you enjoy the time celebrating with loved ones. From Active’s point of view, it has been an interesting year with continued changes to legislation and financial markets.
Our SMSF business has grown substantially. This is partly because we are SMSF specialists with SPAA accreditation but is largely to do with the specialised work we’ve undertaken with accountants and lawyers in developing cost effective sophisticated structures to facilitate property ownership. Our in-house ‘administration and reconciliation’ service has also proven a winner with members and their accountants. If you’d like more information or know someone who is considering a SMSF, please contact Andrew.
Mums and Dads with their personal insurances and superannuation accounts continue to be a core part of our business. We find it rewarding to be able to provide a range of price competitive comprehensive insurance cover inside low cost superannuation accounts that suit any budgets. This year we’ve helped a few families complete, lodge and process their insurance claims and thankfully, the majority of these have been claims associated with disabilities, rather than dealing with the death of a loved one.
We’ve seen a significant uplift in the markets this year which has reflected noticeable in higher account balances for super and investment accounts, with many retirees still having a higher balance even though they are drawing regular pension payments. If you have your wealth under the mattress or in the bank, you may be feeling a little regret.
World markets are still on track to deliver good returns for next year although not at the same level we’ve enjoyed over the past 12 months. Interest rates are still low but are forecast to start increasing over the next year or so.
We’ve had a change of government but are yet to see any significant uplifts in our economy although there are encouraging signs out there. Here in WA we’ve all had friends or families that were impacted by redundancies associated with the sudden closure of some of our major mining projects. Hopefully, the worst is over although we expect there will continue to be small casualties over the next year.
We would like to take this opportunity to thank you one and all for your continued support and wish you and your families a very safe and happy festive season. We look forward to catching up with you in the New Year!
Have a Merry Christmas and a safe New Year
